Jared Harnish — Founder, Voice Legacy Solutions
For nearly a decade, Jared Harnish sat beside ALS patients and their families inside their homes across the Mid-Atlantic, helping them use AAC and eye-gaze technology to keep communicating as speech slipped away. He witnessed the same problem again and again: families would get approved for voice banking funding, have a platform set up — and then nothing would happen. The process was too technical, no one came to guide them through it, and the window to capture their voice closed.
Jared founded Voice Legacy Solutions to close that gap. VLS is the human service layer that technology alone can't provide. Rather than handing patients a login and wishing them luck, Jared and his team come to them — bringing the equipment, running the recording sessions, guiding the prompts, handling the file preparation, and supporting AAC implementation from start to finish.
Based in Pennsylvania, Jared brings firsthand clinical experience and a deep respect for what's at stake when time is short. His mission is simple and personal: make sure no one loses their voice before they've had the chance to preserve it.
Because every voice deserves to be heard forever.
"He showed up with everything."
My husband was diagnosed with ALS fourteen months ago. His neurologist referred us to a speech therapist who mentioned voice banking, and she gave us a list of apps to try. We downloaded two of them and got nowhere. The prompts were confusing, the recording setup kept cutting out, and Frank got frustrated fast. When you're watching someone's speech start to change, the last thing you need is a technology problem.
Jared came to our house. He sat with Frank for two hours and walked him through every phrase — not just reading them off a screen, but actually coaching him through the ones that were hard to say, slowing down when Frank needed a break, knowing when to push and when to back off. Frank recorded over 200 phrases that day. We met remotely for a second session two weeks later and finished the rest.
Frank's voice started changing about four months after that. He uses his AAC device every day now. When the device speaks, it sounds like him. Our kids don't have to explain to their children that this is Grandpa's voice. They just know.
I don't know what we would have done without Jared. I really don't. We had the app. We had the instructions. What we didn't have was someone who'd done this before and knew how to make it work for a real person on a hard day."

"My SLP told me not to wait. I waited anyway. Jared helped us make the most of the voice we had left."
I'll own this: my wife was diagnosed in the spring and I kept telling myself we'd get to the voice banking when things settled down. Things don't settle down. By the time we reached out to Voice Legacy, Karen's speech was already noticeably affected. I was scared we'd missed the window.
Jared didn't make us feel bad about the timing. He assessed where Karen was, told us honestly what we could still capture, and built a plan around that. We did three remote sessions over two weeks. He knew exactly which phrases to prioritize — The things Karen says to me every morning, the phrases that matter most.
What I didn't expect was how emotional the sessions would be — in a good way. There was one afternoon where Karen recorded "I love you" and "I'm proud of you" and "everything is going to be okay" one after another. She was tired but she kept going because Jared explained exactly why each one mattered.
Karen's voice is now in her Tobii. When she tells our daughter she loves her, it's in her voice. That happened because someone showed up, sat with us, and knew what he was doing."

"I didn't know what I wanted to say until the guide helped me find it."
My mother has Parkinson's and her voice has been declining for about two years. Her neurologist suggested message banking — recording full sentences and longer messages rather than individual words — but we had no idea where to start. What do you even say? How do you decide what matters? My mother kept telling us she didn't want to make a fuss, which is the most her thing in the world to say.
The message banking guide that came with the Voice Legacy Solutions package changed everything for her. It wasn't a list of sentences to read. It was a set of prompts — things like "what do you want to tell your grandchildren on their wedding day" and "what's something you've never said out loud that you want them to know." My mother read through it the night before our session and came in the next morning with two pages of notes she'd written herself.
Jared recorded her for almost three hours. She recorded a message for each grandchild by name. She recorded what she wanted said at her funeral — her words, her voice, her instructions. She even recorded herself singing the first verse of the hymn she wants played.
After it was done she said it was the most important thing she'd done in years. She felt lighter.
I've never seen my mother cry and laugh in the same afternoon before. Now I have it on recording.
